Soirée is about an artist attending an opening reception for their own work. The piece was created in collaboration with the Grand Rapids Art Museum as a part of Grand Rapids Ballet's Jumpstart 2022 program. I directed a short film at the museum that played before the performance in the theater. At the reception, the artist's friends, colleagues, and critics join in a spontaneous dance in celebration. I wanted to show the artist's vulnerability, focusing on the joy that art brings to communities.
